Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson, both lawyers. In her early years she attended the Dragon School in Oxfordshire. Emma had a dream to be a professional actress since she was aged six. She attended Stagecoach Theatre Arts in Oxford, an acting institute that offers part-time classes. When she was 10, she had already taken part in a variety of Stagecoach plays and productions. The casting process began in 1999 in the production of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the film adaptation of British author J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Agents for casting found Emma through her Oxford theatre instructor. David Heyman told Emma along together with Rupert Grint, Daniel Radcliffe after having eight consecutive auditions. Emma's first appearance on the big screen came in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, released in 2001. It broke all records in the opening day sales as well as opening week-end take-offs and became the top-grossing movie in 2001. Critics gave high praise to the film, and especially the younger actors. The Daily Telegraph, a widely read British publication, has praised Emma for her exceptional performance. Emma received five nominations for her exceptional performance. Later, she won the Young Artist Award in Leading Young Actresses of an Film.
